Check-Out – PUDO Map – Examples
Introduction
Offering PUDOs as part of the online shopping experience is important for many carriers, shipping providers and merchants. There are a lot of different options to do so and each version impacts different areas of your strategy:
- Compatibility with Merchant Check-Out
- Likelihood that Merchants will use it
- Time to market
There are 5 UI Variants on how to integrate a PUDOs map in the Check-Out:
- Post Purchase: Merchant Selected
- Post Purchase: Consumer Selected: Email/App
- Post Purchase: Consumer Selected: Exit Page
- Check-Out: Consumer Selected: Button
- Check-Out: Consumer Selected: Map
Post Purchase
This version of PUDOs inegrations are in general more compatible with most systems AND has a higher acceptance rate with merchants as it wont impact their check-out unnecessary.
1. Merchant Selected
This version leaves the choice of delivery point to the Merchant, which is then informed to the consumer. In many cases nearest Drop -off Point is selected, which has a high likelihood of being the consumer selection too.
Example: Merchant selects the PUDOs while creating the label.
Step1: Static PUDO Shipping method in Check-Out
Step2: Merchant selects the PUDO while creating a label (implemented by UPS) or sets an automated rule like CDP (Closest Drop-off Point implemented by DHL)

2. Consumer Selected: Email/App
This version allows the consumer to select the PUDO directly via Email or App after the Check-Out. The consumer would receive an Email or App Notification after having placed the Order and can then select the relevant PUDO.
Example: Step1: Static PUDO Shipping Method in Check-Out

Step2: Email/App Notification to Buyer with link to PUDO Selection
Step3: Show Map and List of PUDOs

3. Consumer Selected: Exit Page
This version allows the consumer to select the PUDO directly in the Check-Out on the Exit Page. The version is typically complemented with a Email/App notification.
There is both the possibility to implement a Map directly in the Exit Page or use a Button to an external Map Selection Tool. See more below about the difference. Amazon e.g. use the Button with external page to ensure a better usability and scalability.

Conclusion
Make sure that your product strategy aligns with what your merchants NEED (not want) and what is possible in the market. The Itembase Team will support deciding the right strategy during the Kick-Off and Strategy Sessions.
